Buying to order changes what we can do. Stock is picked for the site rather than ordered blind, it is lifted for your job rather than standing about, and it goes in the ground while it is still fresh.

We supply plants on their own if you would rather do the planting, and we plant what we supply if you would not.

Plant in autumn and winter

October to March is the best time of year to put plants in the ground, and the cheapest way to establish trees and hedging.

The rain does the watering, so there is far less aftercare than a spring or summer planting
The soil holds its warmth into autumn, so roots grow while the plant rests above ground
Plants are settled by spring, grow away strongly and cope better with a dry summer
Bare-root and rootball hedging and trees are only lifted while dormant — the widest choice, and better value than pot-grown

Advice, if you want it

Plenty of people know roughly what they want but not what will survive where they want to put it. We will walk the garden with you, look at the soil and the aspect, and tell you honestly what will work — including when the answer is to spend less.
